Cool Sculpting Removes Fat Without Surgery; SkinSmart Dermatology One of 50 Nationally To Feature New Technology

Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) July 10, 2010

Fat cells can be combated with cold, and a new technology being offered for the first time locally takes advantage of that fact to trim love handles and belly fat ? without surgery.

SkinSmart Dermatology of Sarasota has been involved in early clinical treatments for the Zeltiq Cryolipolysis device for fat layer reduction and is introducing it in Southwest Florida. The company is one of only nine in Florida to offer the treatment. The Zeltiq Procedure gently cools unwanted fat cells at specific areas of the body, causing them to shrink and gradually be eliminated from the body.

The procedure for non-invasive fat layer reduction is available on a limited basis in Canada, the European Union and other international markets. The Zeltiq device is also cleared by the FDA for various applications related to skin cooling during dermatologic treatments, with a pending application for non-invasive fat layer reduction.

"It's the most exciting technology we've seen in decades, and the first technology that effectively reduces fat without surgery," says the Medical Director of SkinSmart, Elizabeth F. Callahan, MD, a board-certified dermatologist. She reports she has found the device to be extremely effective on areas such as fat bulges and pads that do not respond to diet and exercise.

?It?s especially effective on resistant localized areas such as back fat, love-handles and isolated belly fat,? she says.

The Zeltiq technique is based on science developed by a Harvard University dermatologist and researcher which demonstrated that fat cells are more susceptible to cold than other cells and can be selectively, painlessly and permanently destroyed. Starting several weeks after the procedure, cooled fat cells begin a process called ?apoptosis? and begin to shrink and disappear. The body absorbs the damaged fat cells and removes them as is normal through the liver.

?The procedure is non-invasive, absolutely painless, and offers noticeable results,? says Dr. Callahan. ?Early patients who tried it were highly satisfied.?

The Zeltiq procedure involves no needles, surgery or downtime. A non-invasive applicator targets the area of fat to be treated with precisely controlled cooling. Treatment cycles last one hour and, depending on the area treated, patients typically require two to four treatment sessions.

Afterwards, the cooled fat gradually shrinks and is eliminated from the body over a period of two to six months in most patients. Clinical studies have shown that the Zeltiq Procedure can reduce 1 to 2 cm of the selected fat layer thickness by up to 22.4% within two to four months post-procedure after a single treatment.

SkinSmart Dermatology offers the Zeltiq Procedure as part of its menu of treatments. Dr. Callahan notes that the Zeltiq Procedure fills a need between cosmetic and surgical treatments.

?It?s helpful for difficult areas like love handles and areas of the stomach where exercise and nutrition are just not enough. It?s not intended for weight reduction, nor will it replace certain other procedures, such as traditional liposuction for more pronounced results.

?But the Zeltiq Procedure targets the fat layer while being non-invasive and so comfortable that patients just read or work on their laptops during treatment, then return to their normal activities the same day,? she adds.

Dr. Callahan is a board certified cosmetic dermatologist and dermatologic surgeon in private practice in Sarasota. She served her post-graduate residency in dermatology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, OH, and a post-graduate fellowship in Dermatologic Surgery / Cosmetics and MOHS Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. As Medical Director of SkinSmart Dermatology, she maintains a practice staffed by other skin professionals who provide a range of skin healthcare services.

Repetitive Strain Injury & Magnetic Therapy

The term Repetitive Strain Injury covers a range of Musculoskeletal related conditions that have become a common complaint in modern day life. Hand, wrist or elbow injuries are generally centred on the swelling of tendons and tissues around the muscle group. Sports injuries, writing, typing, gardening and cleaning are common causes of RSI. Gitzo Develops Breakthrough Carbon Fiber Technology

New York, New York (PRWEB) October 26, 2005

Gitzo, revered throughout the world for its precision, quality and innovation in bringing new products to market for both the professional photo and video markets, is proud to announce 6X - a new line of carbon fiber tripods incorporating a revolutionary design process that reduces overall weight up to 17 percent without sacrificing strength or stability.

Backing Gitzo 6X technology is the new six-crossed multilayer range which features the Anti Leg Rotation (ALR) system. The ALR system allows for a fast and smooth setup, yet maintains the uncompromised locking strength of the traditional Gitzo twist lock system. Just loosen all twist locks at the same time and pull down the leg before tightening them, making setup a mere 15 seconds for this five sectioned tripod.

The existing 1.5mm Gitzo carbon fiber tube wowed the world, with its unsurpassed strength, stability and remarkable lightweight form factor. Utilizing a three-crossed multilayer carbon structure, bonded together at high pressure and temperature by high quality resins, Gitzo was able to offer professionals a carbon fiber tube that proved to be the ultimate in vibration absorption, strength and stability.

With an eye on advancing its 1.5mm tube and taking it to the next level, Gitzo set out to reduce the weight of the tube even further; however, its R&D team was challenged to do so without sacrificing the strength and stability that the 1.5mm was known for.

Tapping into its revolutionary resources and utilizing its unmatched experience with composite materials, Gitzo was able to develop a new, six-crossed multilayer carbon fiber 30 percent lighter than the previous generation that features the same exceptional performance of stability and vibration absorption and unbeatable quality.

Common knowledge suggests that in order to go lighter you have to go thinner, however, reducing the size of the already thin 1.5mm tube would inevitably result in a loss of strength. By fine tuning its market leading three layer technology to a six layer, with advanced parameters in terms of pressure, temperature and bonding resins, Gitzo was able to beat the odds and create the 6X generation. The six-crossed multilayer tubes measure only 1mm, but are equally as strong and as stable as the 1.5mm, three layer carbon fiber tubes. The 6X range represents, once again, Gitzo leadership not only in introducing unique and world first innovations, but above all in creating with these innovations the best products in terms of quality and performances.

In addition to the new, exclusive six-crossed multilayer structure tube and the Anti Leg Rotation System, the new 6X carbon fiber tripods have been further improved to achieve an even higher quality standard. In a world where details matter, even the smallest details on these tripods have been improved. Top casting now features high quality corrosion resistant, polished stainless top casting bolts for added stability and a redesigned built-in, spring-loaded retractable hook on the bottom of the center column provides a place to hang a stabilizing counterweight such as camera, sand or water bags.
