It's Better to Shoot With Both Hands on the Wheel

Amsterdam, The Netherlands (PRWEB) September 19, 2005

At Manfrotto, ingenuity and innovation have long been the driving force behind the company?s ability to continuously develop cutting edge products that satisfy the rapidly evolving needs of videographers. The FIG RIG, which will be featured at IBC 2005, is a revolutionary support system for the new generation of DV cameras, demonstrates that ability, and furthermore reflects Manfrotto?s exceptional engineering and design capabilities.

From initial conception to finished product, Manfrotto worked alongside director Mike Figgis, whose films include Leaving Las Vegas and Cold Creek Manor, to develop a hand held DV camera support system that offers the shake-free stability of a tripod with the framing flexibility of handheld shooting. Respectively named for Figgis, the FIG RIG was the result of their collaborative efforts.

A lightweight, handheld camera stabilizer, the FIG RIG features a ?wheel shaped? design. It is the only modular system in the world to smoothly support the DV camera and act as a frame to mount all accessories, including zoom controllers, mics, mixers, lights, monitors, arms and more. As there are no straps or harnesses attached to the FIG RIG, quick and wide movements can be made within the same shot, from ground level to overhead, in one smooth movement. With the FIG RIG, videographers can take their DV cameras beyond the limits of traditional and conventional systems, such as tripods and shoulder or body mounted supports, that are obtrusive and at times, limit the creativity of the shooter.

?I needed to design a piece of equipment that could be used with the new generation of DV cameras ? something that could support the camera and eradicate the instability that is synonymous with small camera use,? said director, Mike Figgis. ?Manfrotto seemed to be the ideal company to take it to. They have a world wide profile and a keen competitive ambition to be at the forefront of the new generation of film technique and innovation,? concluded Figgis.

The FIG RIG is exceptionally mobile and features numerous configurations, allowing the user to customize the setup per their individual preferences or shooting requirements. Several adapter plates are available for most types of cameras, and the FIG RIG is compatible with Manfrotto?s 521, 521PRO and 521P remote controls for Sony, Canon and Panasonic Mini DV and Hi8 cameras. The FIG RIG is also the only modular system in the world to smoothly support the DV camera and act as a frame to mount an array of accessories. Using the optional 595CLA FIG RIG Clamp, users can attach zoom controllers, mics, mixers, lights, monitors, arms and more, or even use the Clamp to attach the entire FIG RIG to a tripod or monopod. The 595CLA is specifically designed for use with the FIG RIG and is supplied with 1/4? and 3/8? screws and female adapters.
